The Acoustimass AM-5 system comprises two small cube speakers and an Acoustimass module that serves as a bass unit. This setup aims to provide high-quality sound with minimal visual impact, making it suitable for various home environments. 

Acoustimass Module: This is essentially a powered subwoofer but contains bass drivers and is designed to blend seamlessly with the cube speakers. It uses a unique bass reproduction technology where the bass drivers are coupled to three separate resonators, providing a wide dynamic range and non-localizable bass. The module from the Series II model measures approximately 19-1/4 inches long, 14 inches high, and 7-1/2 inches wide, with the port needing to be unobstructed for optimal performance.

• Frequency Response: The bass module extends from approximately 50 Hz to 250 Hz, with a very steep cutoff slope to prevent harmonic distortion from being audible, which helps in creating a more diffuse bass sound rather than a pinpointed source.
• Connections: The system uses spring-loaded connectors for input signals from an amplifier. Users must connect the module to the amplifier or receiver, then from the module to the cube speakers. It’s crucial to get the wiring correct to avoid phase issues which can degrade sound quality.
• Amplification: The AM-5 requires an external amplifier or receiver, as it does not include built-in amplification. This allows for flexibility in choosing the power source but means additional setup is required.
