Its rugged design includes silicone end caps to protect against drops from up to 1.5 meters. The speaker has an IP67 rating, making it dustproof and waterproof, capable of being submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

• It features a single tweeter and a mid-woofer, each powered by its own Class-H digital amplifier, tuned for clarity and bass. Automatic Trueplay uses the built-in microphones to adjust the sound based on the speaker’s surroundings, although some users note it tends to emphasize bass which can be adjusted via the Sonos S2 app. The speaker supports both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, with the ability to switch automatically between these when moving from home to outdoor settings.

• The Roam supports voice control with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and it’s compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 for streaming from Apple devices. It can connect to WiFi using any 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2.4 or 5 GHz broadcast-capable router or use Bluetooth 5.0 for audio streaming from any Bluetooth-enabled device. The Sonos app allows for multi-room audio setup at home, where the Roam can sync with other Sonos products.

• With a battery life of up to 10 hours of continuous playback, the Roam can be charged through USB-C (with a minimum of 7.5W power source recommended) or via a Qi-certified wireless charger. There’s also a specific Sonos Roam Wireless Charger available for magnetic charging, though sold separately.
