Assorted Gems from Musical Fidelity.

Without doubt one of the most influential personalities in the audio industry is Antony Michaelson of Musical Fidelity. He has produced an unbroken run of superb amplifiers, CD players, DAC's phono Pre-amps etc.

Peachtree - Nova

$1,499

The Peachtree Nova does digital properly by being a blend of top class digital converter and an 80w x 2 integrated amplifier. You can connect a digital source via optical, coaxial, or USB digital input. To massively extend its utility you can also incorporate a Sonos ZP90 unit for wireless network access to a hard drive stored music collection. The ZP90 actually disappears into a special compartment in the back of the Nova, and the digital output is converted by the Nova's very high-end ESS 9006 24bit/96khz Sabre digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) before being beautifully rendered by the 80w amplifier. You can sit and call up whatever music you want via the new improved Sonos controller, which makes browsing for music a pleasure. It can upgrade your various digital sources - you could think of the Nova as a classy, multi-input DAC with a bonus stereo amplifier, but it is even more than that. The headphone amp section is also of a high standard, saving you the expense of a classy add-on.

Another attractive feature of the Nova is the ability to select either solid-state (transistor) pre-amp circuitry or Valve circuitry from the remote control. This means you can tailor the sound according to music style, speaker type, or just personal preference, and switch between the two with ease. John Marks of Stereophile said "In my book, the Nova is the Dynaco 70 for the 21st Century". Which is another way of saying that while it is not extreme high-end, it's an overperformer for the price. Reviews from high-end magazines in the USA and Germany, plus our own listening, confirm that the results you get from the Nova will not be beaten unless you are spending a lot more money. It looks good too, with timber or black finish, plus the glow of the valve in the front panel when it is in use.
